Frequently Asked Questions

Core Value & Trust

What does a financial planner do?

A financial planner can help you organize your finances, build a strategy for your goals, and manage investments, create a tax plan, develop a retirement income plan, and manage risk over time.

Are you a fiduciary?

Yes. In my capacity as a Financial Advisor and CFP, I am required to always act in your best interests. (I changed this since the fiduciary standard only applies to advisory services and not for broker dealer reg rep).

What is a CFP® professional and why does it matter?

A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional has met rigorous education, exam, and experience requirements and adheres to a fiduciary standard.

Clients & Fit

Who do you typically work with?

While my clients’ needs are broad, I often work individuals and families approaching or in retirement, especially those ages 55–70 and those who want help consolidating old 401(k) plans. Clients who have sudden changes in wealth will also find professional advice valuable in managing their rapidly changing situation.

Do I need a certain amount of money to work with you?

I work with a wide range of clients and value long-term relationships above all else. While I do continue to serve many family and friends with accounts of various sizes, my minimum for new client relationships is generally $750,000 in investable assets.

That said, if you’re looking for thoughtful guidance, a long-term planning partner, and a fiduciary relationship built on trust, I’m always happy to have a conversation to see if we’re a good fit.

Can you help if I still have a 401(k) at a previous employer?

Yes. Evaluating and potentially consolidating old 401(k)s is one of the most common ways I help clients simplify and optimize their finances.

Yes, depending on their situation and needs, clients often receive a comprehensive and actionable plan.

Investment Philosophy

How do you invest client portfolios?

I offer diversified, cost-efficient portfolios aligned with your goals, time horizon, and risk tolerance, with a strong focus on long-term outcomes.

Do you try to time the market?

No. I focus on disciplined, evidence-based investing rather than short-term speculation.

How often will my portfolio be reviewed?

Your portfolio is continuously monitored and formally reviewed at least annually, or more often as needed.

Fees & Transparency

How do you get paid?

I offer both asset-based fees (AUM) and flat or hourly planning fees, depending on your needs.

What does your fee include?

Ongoing advice, portfolio management, financial planning, and regular reviews.

Are there any hidden fees or commissions?

As an independent financial advisor, I prioritize transparency and avoid commission-based conflicts as much as possible.

Retirement & Planning Focus

How do you help me prepare for retirement?

I build a strategy that integrates income planning, tax efficiency, investment management, and risk management.

Can you help reduce taxes in retirement?

Yes. Strategies like Roth conversions, withdrawal sequencing, and tax-efficient investing can potentially reduce lifetime taxes.

How do you create retirement income?

I seek to design a reliable income plan using a mix of investments, Social Security strategies, and withdrawal frameworks to support your lifestyle.

Process & Getting Started

What does it look like to get started?

We begin with a discovery meeting where I learn about your goals and current financial situation and explain how we work with clients. Then, I’ll analyze your situation and goals, discuss our initial findings, and conduct a second meeting to show the ongoing value you can expect. Once you’ve decided to work with me, I’ll provide you plan tailored to you that explains your readiness, alternative options to achieve your goal and begin implementation.
